What
past participants have said:
"The
fashion workshops have given me an insight into the world
of fashion and what it takes to become a fashion artist.
I have learnt that fashion is hard work and that you can
have your own unique fashion" (Monique
Joseph, St Paul’s RC School)
"The
fashion workshops have helped me towards my future career
choice. Before I came I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer
and now that I have experienced it, I want to be one even
more!"
(Lolita Li, Eltham Hill Technology College for Girls)

Workshops for
Young People
London
College of Fashion and Fashion Awareness Direct
will be running a course for young people at
Greenwich schools and colleges from 28th June
to 2nd July 2004.

London
College of Fashion and Fashion Awareness Direct will
be running another series of workshops for year 10
students at schools and colleges in the area of Greenwich.
The workshops will cover the whole process of fashion
design from initial research through to a completed
product. Workshops will include visual research as
inspiration, design development, printed textiles
and draping on the stand. Students will learn how
to construct a bag from a pattern, which will then
be styled and displayed in the final day catwalk show.
Students will also be taken on a visit to the Fashion
& Textile Museum in Bermondsey.
At the end of the course participants will have built
a complete portfolio reflecting their work during
the course: mood boards, drawings, illustrations,
photography and the constructed garment. Guidance
on how to transfer these sills to application for
entry into fashion and art colleges will also be given.
A
teacher accompanying a group of students in the previous
workshops commented: “The
week has been a great adventure for the students.
I have observed them growing in confidence in an unfamiliar
setting, and learning how to work both on their own
and collaboratively with their peers and lecturers.
The course content, and the fast pace, provided the
kind of rigour that these highly motivated, creative
young people require…. The final fashion show
was amazing and made me very proud of our young people!”
(Kate Rogers, Teacher, Eltham Hill)
The
workshops are ideal for students from a diverse range
of backgrounds and cultures seeking to find out more
about the courses at fashion colleges and fashion
careers in the UK.
Deadline for application forms:
Friday 30th April 2004
The workshops are funded by Aimhigher
