2006 Fashion Futures 2
The Project
The project has three stages

Stage 1
Saturday Workshops at Hackney Community College starting on 21st January to 18th March 2006, 10.00 – 13.00

Brief: Looking at the site for the Olympic Games in London 2012, research ancient Greek culture when the games first started in 776 B.C. Within this context create a series of primary observational drawings from the Ancient Greek Gallery at the British Museum, which will inspire your menswear, womenswear or accessories sportswear collection.

Objective: to produce mood boards, develop a sketchbook -including technical illustrations- and a menswear or womenswear toile or a sample accessory.

15th February 06:
Industry day at George at Asda Head Offices, Leicestershire,
Aim: to see how the collection is designed, assembled and distributed to their 293 nationwide stores.

April 2006.
Venue: East London - Exhibition of the work of students and selection of 15 finalists to go on to stage 2 of the programme

Stage 2
A five day Summer School at the
London College of Fashion in July 06.
The 15 finalists will produce and style a garment following the brief set up by the design team of George at Asda. In producing this outfit they will work to a deadline and will experience how hard designers work and how many different elements need to be considered to get to the end result.

Stage 3
The 2nd FAD Junior Awards
Professional catwalk in early October 06 to an audience of industry and educational experts and announcement of the winner of the competition

Winner’s Prize: to have his/her outfit made by ASDA and sold in selected stores, and a two-week work placement at ASDA’s George Label design offices in London during October 2006 Half-Term and the week following.

Costs: There is a cost of £150.00 per student attending stage 1 and a further £150 for the finalists going to the Summer School. FAD would like all interested students to take part in the project and for this purpose a number of student grants are available. Please contact FAD for further information
