The
Project
The project has three stages
Stage
1
Saturday Workshops at Hackney Community
College starting on 21st January to 18th March 2006, 10.00
– 13.00
Brief:
Looking at the site for the Olympic Games in London 2012,
research ancient Greek culture when the games first started
in 776 B.C. Within this context create a series of primary
observational drawings from the Ancient Greek Gallery at
the British Museum, which will inspire your menswear, womenswear
or accessories sportswear collection.
Objective:
to produce mood boards, develop a sketchbook -including
technical illustrations- and a menswear or womenswear toile
or a sample accessory.
15th
February 06:
Industry day at George at Asda Head Offices, Leicestershire,
Aim: to see how the collection is designed,
assembled and distributed to their 293 nationwide stores.
April
2006.
Venue: East London - Exhibition of the
work of students and selection of 15 finalists to go on
to stage 2 of the programme
Stage
2
A five day Summer School at the
London College of Fashion in July 06.
The 15 finalists will produce and style a garment following
the brief set up by the design team of George at Asda. In
producing this outfit they will work to a deadline and will
experience how hard designers work and how many different
elements need to be considered to get to the end result.
Stage
3
The 2nd FAD Junior Awards
Professional catwalk in early October 06 to an audience
of industry and educational experts and announcement of
the winner of the competition
Winner’s
Prize: to have his/her outfit made by ASDA and
sold in selected stores, and a two-week work placement at
ASDA’s George Label design offices in London during
October 2006 Half-Term and the week following.
Costs: There is a cost of £150.00
per student attending stage 1 and a further £150 for
the finalists going to the Summer School. FAD would like
all interested students to take part in the project and
for this purpose a number of student grants are available.
