This week we got to grips with the building blocks of garment construction, exploring draping and flat pattern cutting as complementary methods to bring a design to life.
Experimenting with both woven and jersey fabrics on the stand, students took ideas from their primary research sketchbooks to mould creative garment silhouettes.
Working in 2-D, they got to grips with a basic dress block, and learned how to make key modifications including moving a dart, altering the neckline and manipulating the skirt shape – as well as how to add the crucial seam allowance.
