HACKNEY Fifty students from four local Hackney schools attended the Fashion Futures workshops organised by Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD) and London College of Fashion (LCF). The Year 10 students attended the eight workshops which took placed at LCF's Mare Street premises. Funded through the COVE initiative, this project aims to introduce fashion as an educational path for pre A-level students. Each workshop encompasses fashion as a design process and teaches ractical skills. This all-sensory experience allows students to produce evidence such as the creation of story-boards, textile printing, fashion styling and working with prediction cycles. Fashion Futures has helped most participating students to decide whether they would take fashion as a career path based on their experience in workshops such Styling, Producing a Catwalk and Portfolio Building. One student has decided to take fashion A-levels and another one to take a Fashion course at LCF. Students who completed the course were proof of the success story these series of workshops have become. Joanne Adamu, Our Lady's Convent School "Thank you very much, I really enjoyed the sessions and have gained a lot of knowledge!" Other great news...former students, Celia Campbell and Erin Hayes, were runners-up in a recent Young Designers Award Competition organised by The Fashion Designers and Craftmakers Network held on December 7th 2003. Celia's mother said, "This experience gave my daughter a self-confidence boost. Fashion Futures is a wonderful course in providing this opportunity". |
