Catching
the eye of the jury, the sophisticated and refined
pieces gained Terri Cohen a unanimous first
place vote and the £2000 prize money.
Hand dyed silk, hand-stitched strips and individual
printed cotton all formed part of Terri Cohen’s
stunning designs evoking images of ancient Egypt
and the artist Christo’s wrappings as outlined
in the brief in an original and imaginative manner.

Strong visual impact and subtle detailing earned
Nicola Lewis from De Montfort University
second place, with Amy Saville from
Central Lancashire University in third. They
receive £1,000 each and all three receive
work placements with Harrods.

All 20 finalists outfits were showcased through
a catwalk show and exhibition as the finale of FAD’s
6th annual Graduate Competition at Shoreditch Town
Hall. An evening heavily supported by the fashion
industry, recognisable faces included that of jury
member Hillary Alexander as well as representatives
from all the leading luxury retailers such as Harrods,
Browns, Harvey Nichols.

FAD’s
Director, Maria Alvarez de Toledo, said:
“This year’s entries were exceptionally
strong and the competition has provided a platform
to showcase new talent– something greatly
appreciated by students, teachers and the industry
alike. FAD is continuously working to provide opportunities
to young people and this competition is one of many
projects.”
The
competition was supported by Harrods, Evian, the
Egyptian Cultural Institute and the practical skills
