This
year’s brief is based on Russian culture and
is centred on
St Petersburg and Moscow, two cities with dramatically
differing cultures and heritage, and on the Ballet
Russes, an art form which
has transmitted so much about Russian culture to
the West.
Out
of entries received from 20 different fashion colleges
& universities, 15 finalists have been selected.
The selected students captured the ‘Russian’
style in shapes and colours as well as in the choice
of fabric for their designs, at the same time combining
the ‘peasant’ with the ‘aristocratic’
and the movement from Russian Ballet to the architectural
grandeur of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The pre-selection
jury praised some of them for their embroidery and
draping techniques and others for their innovative
concepts. All in all, a great variety of very creative
work, which will make it very difficult for the
jury to chose the 3 winners!

“ Edge
exists to shine a light on achievement through practical
learning. FAD’s show is a classic example
of this - a unique showcase of the outstanding contribution
of practical learners to the world of fashion. It
bridges the gap between education and employment
and gives aspiring designers a chance to be recognised
for their talent”. |
