Stage 1: Saturday Workshops

See 2007 FF2 In Action! here (Acrobat PDF).

Over ten Saturday workshops, students receive expert tuition from practising designers who give them an insight into the whole fashion design and construction process - from initial research to making up a toile. They also have the chance to spend a day at the design studios of one of FAD's retail partners, where they can gain a realistic impression of the fashion workplace and where industry professionals can advise them on their designs.

At the end of the course, students' work is exhibited at a central London venue. All participants are presented with a certificate, and the finalists who have been selected to go on to Stage 2 are announced.

This year’s brief? "Trading across the waves": the silk, porcelain, tea trade between China and the UK. FF2 2007 was the largest yet, involving 100 London based students plus 25 from Beijing. Twenty two of these students continued to Stage 2, where they completed their designs at an intensive workshop at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design.

Finalists from the FF2 programme were treated to a series of three special workshops designed to give the students an insight into various aspects of the fashion industry. These started with a viewing of an Off-Schedule show at London Fashion Week and tour led by Fashion PR Amanda Johansson. Amanda led the students behind-the-scenes to see preparations in action, where they were given a true feel of the backstage atmosphere that precedes a catwalk show, before taking in Mustafa Aslanturk’s show.
