On 25th April 2007, at the FAD Fashion Futures 2 Showcase at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, Fashion Awareness Direct announced the 30 finalists who would attend the FF2 Summer School. Chosen out of 100 hopeful London Sixth Form students and 25 of their Chinese contemporaries, they will compete for the coveted first prize at the 3rd FAD Junior Awards – an opportunity to see their design produced and sold to the public by Tesco.

Twinning students from Olympic host countries China and Britain with a brief that explores the two countries’ relationship from the tea, porcelain and silk trading days, spanning over 400 years to current day, FAD FF2 2007 is the largest, most ambitious to date.

Through workshops taught by practising designers, the 130 students have been shown how to follow a brief from initial research through to producing a toile. In addition, a study day at the V&A and an industry day with designers from Tesco were arranged by FAD. All 100 London students will gain a National Open College Network Qualification on completion of FAD FF2 (Stage1).

Only 30 students, including ten from Beijing, have been chosen for stage two of FAD FF2 and gained a place for summer school at prestigious Central Saint Martins College during July 07. Here the students will produce an outfit to be showcased on the catwalk at the 3rd FAD Junior Awards in September.

Judged by a panel of leading fashion insiders, including Fashion Fringe 2006 winner Gavin Douglas, the winners of the 3rd FAD Junior Awards will be announced on the evening of the catwalk show.

‘I am definitely happy to be part of this project. It’s good to see the work and progression the students have made. I will definitely recommend that anybody interested in doing fashion attend FAD FF2.’
