That was the brief for the FAD FF2 workshop attended by 50 students from London schools in the boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Camden and Tower Hamlets.

The race was on... five days to create the perfect outfit to wear to the London 2012 Olympics. To design an outfit which was practical, functional and modern, yet which reflected the spirit of Ancient Greece, birthplace of the original Olympic games.

That was the brief facing the 16 students who won places in this year�s FAD Fashion Futures 2 competition. Only one of the 16 would win the chance to see their outfit manufactured for sale by the George label at ASDA in selected UK stores. So for a week last July at the London College of Fashion, FAD Fashion Futures 2 students frantically hemmed, stitched, tacked and pattern cut designs which had begun life in a sketchbook, into 3-D sportswear outfits, ready for sale in a shop.

The Show

Lights, camera, Olympic glamour!


A black-clad model cartwheels down the catwalk, a flurry of ribbons attached to her simple black leotard - bunches of blue, reds, greens and yellows spin through the air.

There is a collective intake of breath - the audience lean sharply forward, jostling each other for a better view. It's the start of the 2nd FAD Junior Awards at London's Fashion Textiles Museum.
