Stage 1 - Saturday Workshops The seven-week project will give the students the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the Fashion industry. They will be taught by practising designers and lecturers with a design background. Showcase Look at the grounds for London's 2012 Olympics and then rewind the clock to 776 BC and the first Olympics of all in Ancient Greece. That was the brief for the FAD FF2 workshop attended by 50 students from London schools in the boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Camden and Tower Hamlets. Stage 2 - Summer School The race was on... five days to create the perfect outfit to wear to the London 2012 Olympics. To design an outfit which was practical, functional and modern, yet which reflected the spirit of Ancient Greece, birthplace of the original Olympic games.
That was the brief facing the 16 students who won places in this years FAD Fashion Futures 2 competition. Only one of the 16 would win the chance to see their outfit manufactured for sale by the George label at ASDA in selected UK stores. So for a week last July at the London College of Fashion, FAD Fashion Futures 2 students frantically hemmed, stitched, tacked and pattern cut designs which had begun life in a sketchbook, into 3-D sportswear outfits, ready for sale in a shop.
