Rachel Brooks, University of Brighton, was a finalist in the 2011 FAD Competition at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in February. She will be showcasing her graduate collection at the Candid Arts Gallery in London on Wednesday 9th June. Since taking part in the competition, Rachel has been offered a work placement with Phase 8 and has continued to work on her FAD entry as the basis for her final graduate collection.
“My collection has been inspired by Dodie Smith’s 1940’s novel: I Capture the Castle, and is specifically based around the seventeen year old character of Cassandra, a whimsical tomboy. Set in ruralSuffolk, the collection is lighthearted and playful and takes influence from the tactile nature of traditional handcraft techniques.”
*UPDATE* Since completing her placement with Phase 8 through FAD, Rachel has been offered a full time contract within their design team.
