Set up as a creative charity, FAD works to provide 13-25 year olds with a realistic insight into the fashion industry by hosting high-profile industry days, creative workshops, and catwalk events. Working in conjunction with the industry’s most-respected names, FAD is all about ‘Creating Futures through Fashion’ by bridging the gap between education and industry. After providing “an undeniable springboard” [Vogue] for over 8000 young people, the charity has encouraged and inspired intelligent design and individual expression that has led to their students being featured in national publications, such as The Independent Magazine’, The Telegraph, The Guardian and online at Vogue.com. On the night a catwalk retrospective will showcase garments from a decade of the FAD Competition, alongside innovative new collections by past winners and finalists. Highlights include Rebecca Thomson from the Royal College of Art; Katie Pope, one half of London designers Harnett Pope; Beatrice Newman, LCF MA graduate and Rasa Abramaviciute, who is now part of the design team at Vivienne Westwood. Exhibiting alongside the catwalk show will be illustrations inspired by 10 years of the FAD Competition brief, featuring work by 14 fashion students from universities and colleges across the UK. Thanks to FAD sponsors and supporters there will be the chance to bid on some fantastic lots in the fashion auction and each guest will receive a hand printed goody bag designed by teenagers taking part in Fashion Futures. All proceeds from the FAD 10 charity gala show will go towards funding hands-on training and opportunities for teenagers from the most excluded backgrounds. "FAD is the only charity I know that supports young people through the field of fashion. I think it’s great because fashion is something everyone wears, you can relate to at an early age and it’s something which really excites people. At the same time it can be seen as really elitist, so to enable young people from all walks of life to be part of it is amazing."
