A Very Royal Celebration: New East London Embroiderers at Kensington Palace

It’s been quite a month for FAD’s New East London Embroiderers. After an incredible reception at the Knitting & Stitching show, the FAD team set to work preparing for the next showcase – this time in the royal surroundings of Kensington Palace.

On Wednesday 17th October FAD held an intimate reception at the Palace in the newly refurbished Clore Learning Centre. The New East London Embroiderers and young volunteers were joined by school teachers, industry guests and sponsors, The Heritage Lottery Fund, to celebrate the achievements of the project and the launch of a month long showcase at Kensington Palace.

Guests enjoyed canapés, champagne and speeches from former Embroiderers Guild Chairman, Anthea Godfrey; Jon Sheaff on behalf of The Heritage Lottery and Jenny Wedgbury, Education Officer at Kensington palace. The night also saw the first screening of a short film by balancefilm documenting the project and ‘stitched stories’ of the young people involved.

It was a fantastic evening and FAD were really pleased to have the company of embroidery expert Anthea Godfrey and fashion designer Lisa Friedl, both of whom have given so much time and support to the project.

Visit the New East London Embroiderers at Kensington Palace!

The New East London Embroiderers garments will be on display at Kensington Palace daily (10.00am – 4.00pm) until Wednesday 15th November.

The garments are situated in the Clore Learning Centre, accessed through the wooden door on the left when you come in through the main entrance of the palace. If the door to the Clore Learning Centre is locked, please ask a member of staff and they will open it for you.

Please note: The New East London Embroiderers display is free to visit, but you will need to purchase a ticket from the White Court ticket desk if you wish to enter the rest of the palace.
