This week saw the launch of an exciting new FAD initiative in collaboration with the Black Cultural Archives (BCA).
The young volunteers have signed up for the task of investigating the emergence of jazz in Britain during the roaring 1920s & 30s, and the influential black people living in Britain during this culturally vibrant period.
Tuesday saw the first of five research sessions geared towards inspiring young volunteers to explore different archives for material. Over August their task will be to collate photographs, sketches and notes on inspiring role models from the 1920s and 30s, which will be used to create printed textiles and an interactive magazine later this year.
The day included a presentation from the Positive Steps Archive, owned by Leon Robinson.
