Mentoring, Masterclasses and new jobs – 2019 has got off to a successful start for FAD INTOFashion.
We’ll start by congratulating three INTOFashion beneficiaries who’ve found employment in the industry – Emma as a Trainee Buyer at Primark, Francesca as Fashion Technician at University of East London and Lydia who starts at PR and AR agency Vismedia.
Our INTOFashion beneficiaries are now paired with their industry mentors, who work in companies including ASOS, Next Label Mix and New Look. Mentors and Mentees meet once a month to review CVs and portfolios, set goals and develop specialist knowledge and understanding.
We’ve had two eye-opening Masterclasses exploring different aspects of the industry.
Head of Retail and Product Analysis at WGSN, Francesca Muston, presented “the Future of Forecasting” at WGSN HQ in central London.
“The WGSN talk really opened my eyes up to how broad subjects influence trends, from current political events, to lifestyle and scientific engineering.”
“The visit opened my eyes and it amazed me to see the journey WGSN travel to find what’s current and fresh and original. This has helped me within my own work, by making me more aware of my research process and encouraging me to look that extra bit further to develop a more original design.”
Design Leader Della Nelson led a masterclass on “Branding Yourself,” which examined how to develop a personal brand to approach potential employers.
“Branding is everything about you, the message you want to get across. I have learnt to value my skills and experiences in relation to my professional identity.”
“The branding workshop taught me to change the way I approach reaching out to companies and to try and make sure I put my personality across in all my communication.”
“Now I’m not afraid to make mistakes, I can learn from them.”
INTOFashion is funded by Trust for London.
