George & FAD ‘Global Traveller’ Competition
As part of their sponsorship of the FAD Fashion Futures 2013 programme, George at Asda in partnership with FAD set a very special customising challenge for FAD teens.
Looking to the rich and diverse cultures of the world the ‘Global Traveller’ competition asked Fashion Futures students to design and create a customised garment to be displayed on the George sponsorship stand at Graduate Fashion Week.
On Monday 3rd June, in front of a packed crowd at Graduate Fashion Week’s new speakers ‘Space’, journalist Hilary Alexander welcomed Nicola Jones from George onto the stage to announce the winner of the Global Traveller Competition. The delighted FAD winner Tihara, 17, from LaRetraite School in Lambeth was presented with an engraved glass star award and George vouchers for her Hawaii inspired outfit.
In addition all three of the FAD finalists were given two tickets to attend the ‘Best of Graduate Fashion Week’ show on the final day, where they got to see the top 25 graduate collections from the week on the catwalk.

Launch of the 2014 FAD Competition
On Monday 3rd June, the FAD team officially launched the 2014 FAD Competition to university tutors at Graduate Fashion Week, delivering promotional packs including a copy of the new brief – ‘Multisensory’– research references, guidelines and promotional posters.
Open to 2nd and 3rd year BA and MA students, the 2014 FAD Competition challenges aspiring fashion designers to consider: ‘What can multisensory fashion be? How can it enhance the experience of the wearer?’
All finalists will see their designs showcased at London Fashion Week in February 2014 as part of Fashion Scout. The winner and two runners-up will also receive vital funding towards their final graduate collections.
