Fashion Futures 2017 Launches at the V&A Museum!
We were super excited to kick off this year’s Fashion Futures at the V&A last Saturday! Over 60 young people from Greater London and the surrounding areas came together at the V&A’s grand Lecture Hall to start this year’s course.
To begin, there was an intro talk with Joanna, FAD’s Project Manager, and Danielle, a Fashion Futures grad and seasoned FAD volunteer. Together they went through what Fashion Futures really is, and gave everyone an overview of what to expect over the next 11 weeks. More recent FF grads Melissa, Georgie, David, Natalie, and Gabby came together for a panel Q&A. Some key questions were asked – such as things they’d tell themselves at the start of the Fashion Futures process, and how to balance FF with school, college or any other major commitments. Tips included – do the home tasks set as soon as possible, don’t leave it too late so you’re not rushing, and also do it shortly after the workshops whilst your mind is still fully in creative mode. Oh, and that your research is very, VERY important.
After a short break, FAD’s Curriculum Coordinator Joanne revealed this year’s brief: Tastemakers_Europe. And what exactly does this mean? Well, taking inspiration from European artists, and then injecting some of this into new, original creations. This could be in the form of shape, colour, texture…whatever!
Keeping the brief in mind, the FF 2017 cohort ventured into the European galleries for the afternoon to explore, research, sketch and gather ideas and inspo. This all important task will form the creative backbone of their designs, which they’ll bring to life over the course of the next 11 weeks culminating in the creation of their own toile.
Workshops start next week! You can follow along with what we’re up to live via our social media @FADCharity.
