Award for Commercial Awareness
“FAD taught me a lot – things I didn’t know like sewing on an industrial machine, how to draw a pattern. I learnt to be more professional and also more confident, me as a person and as a designer.
Before doing this, I was really scared. I thought my English was not good. Sometimes I have problems talking, connecting with other people. I thought that I wasn’t going to be one of the finalists, so when I heard I was like, “Oh my days, this is what I really want to do in the future and now I know that I’m good.”
I was inspired by African patterns because I have so many dresses that my sister used to send me from Africa. For me personally, background and heritage always link into my work. I’m going to keep digging inside of my culture –it’s something personal to me, so in the future I want to start exploring that more.
I just want to keep going. Definitely, this is what I want to do, that’s true.”
