“My project is about this term called the ‘anthropacy’ which is the Earth’s era that man has influenced. So my work is based on a lot of this artist Mark Dion’s art which kinda focuses on how humans have affected the Earth. I think sustainable fashion is really important, especially the way garments are made in fast fashion. It’s very unethical and wasteful so I think having an open conversation about the environment and ways that we affect it is really good because it makes people more aware of their own carbon footprint and what they do that affects the Earth.
I’ve found Fashion Futures really insightful as to how actually time consuming and difficult things like pattern cutting are, because I struggle with that a lot, wrapping my head around it – so getting help from people when it’s their job is really good.
I have worked really hard to get to the catwalk, I put a lot of effort into my project and into doing research for my concept, so seeing the industry and how it works is actually very cool.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how a garment looks, the final product and what it conveys – the meaning. I think it’s definitely inspired me to work more on my art, researching into that.”
