Barcelona, acting as “the consulate of the sea” since 1258, with its galleons exploring the high seas and trading on the shores of the Mediterranean, has since then become a pioneer for networking and international relations. One of the lasting proofs of the prosperity
reached by the city at the beginning of the 14th Century are its gothic constructions; not only religious ones, such as Santa Maria del Mar, but civic buildings like the stunning vaulted structure of the royal shipyards of “Las Atarazanas”.
