The judges agree Jong-Su’s two outfits vividly capture the essence of this year’s themes of Salvador Dali and the city of Barcelona.

Commenting on his entry, Lluis Juste de Nin, Creative Director of Armand Basi, says the pieces “show enormous originality and depth, and highlight the creative and technical skills of this young designer”.

Jong-Su’s first piece was inspired by Dali’s prolific work, “The Tuna Fishing”. His second, remembers the architecture of Gaudi and the Gothic period. Jong-Su Kim wins the first prize of £2,000 and a coveted work placement with the Armand Basi Fashion House in
Barcelona.

Aurora Texeira from the Istituto Marangoni in London, is this year’s first runner-up. Aurora chose the bold and distinctive colours of black and white to underscore her interpretation of Dali’s surrealistic period.

Judge Angelo Uslenghi, a trends forecaster from Milan, says: “It shows she can do a collection around one idea with a well-done study of the subject, in this case Dali and Barcelona. She has also brought these ideas into the 21st century with some intelligent transformations”.

Third place goes to Kim Lewis from Central St. Martin’s College, London. Kim’s felt design won particular admiration from the judges for her creative use of print, colour, and appliqué. The two runners-up win £1,000 each.

The winners were announced by Gwyn Miles, Director of Projects and Estate at the V&A, during Wednesday’s showing in the Raphael Gallery.
